Knowing Me, Knowing You - August 2012

This is formerly the monthly getting to know you meme that my dear friend, The Fairy Blogmother used to post, well, monthly. Technically, she posted this May. I'm just getting around to seeing and posting it here. Ooopsy! Fairy Blogmother devises and posts the questions and I post my answers.

1. For you married folk out there.... Where is your wedding dress?
Repurposed as a dedication/christening gown for Mini Me. J designed it, his aunt sewed it. Mini Me wore it. Now it languishes in her closet. Next to her birth mother's communion dress.

2. Do you or have you played any organized sports?

I used to play volleyball, basketball, ran track, did long jump, and high jump. I actually have some awards for doing well in that stuff. As an adult I did 5K, 10K, and half-marathons plus one biathlon (running and bike 'cause I can't swim) for which I have some lovely t-shirts and a few finisher medals.

3. What is your favourite kind of muffin?

I prefer my muffin top. It's with me all the time.

4. Started Christmas shopping yet?

Heck no!

5. The funniest show on TV right now is.......

Absolutely nothing. It's summer and the getting is not good. Pretty much don't watch TV in the summer.

So, head on over to the Fairy Blog Mother to see her answers!

Knowing Me Knowing You - February '12

My friend, The Fairy Blogmother FINALLY posted a new "Knowing Me, Knowing You" so I am happy to play along.

1. What is the one thing you wish you were better at as a blogger?I used to blog every day. And I used to miss reading my blog friends' sites every day. I miss that. I miss my blog world.

2. What is your favorite way to treat yourself/pamper yourself?I like my alone time. I like to go get a pedicure and my waxing done by myself. A massage and alone time is divine.

3. Do you (or have you in the past) work outside the home?  If so, what do you do?I do marketing and admissions for a private school. I LOVE what I do. I LOVE where I do it.

4. What is your favorite thing about blogging?I can get my thoughts and feelings out and that is therapy for me.

5. If you could magically be anything you wanted to be (without needing additional education or childcare) what would you be?
I'd like to be a psychologist. Have a license to tell people how to run their lives instead of now - I tell them but I don't have a license.

6. Do you like to travel? If so, what is your favorite destination?Yeah, I like to travel but I don't want to waste money on it. Meaning, I want to rest on vacation. I don't want to spend a bunch of money traveling somewhere to lounge at the pool reading when I can curl up with a good book in my pajamas in my bed. That said, I've traveled a fair bit and seen a bunch of stuff and have rather enjoyed it.

7. Are you an adventurous eater?Yes. I've eaten things other people would not eat like alligator, cow testicles, rattlesnake, shark, all manner of sea creature, etc.. Doesn't mean I would eat it twice. What doesn't kill strengthens, right?

8. How would you describe yourself? Type A-/B+ personality. I come across as an A-type until you put me next to an alpha female and then you realize that my shy side is there and I no longer dominate the room. But without the other alpha female, it's my show, my friend.

9. Have you ever met your online/blogger friends in real life? What was it like?I think the first bloggy friend I met was The Fairy Blogmother. I knew her well enough from her blog that I knew she was shy and it would take some prodding to get her to come meet me - even though it was with a mutual real life friend, NAMK and her family.

And I met A2EatWrite in Ann Arbor, MI in 2010. She made me the most delightful cookies. My mom and sister thought I was going to be killed by her. They were so wrong. A2EatWrite was like hanging out with my best friend that I had not seen a couple of years.

10. Do you have a best friend? How long have you known them?J has been my best friend for 15 years. This is both good and bad. Good because I have a "built-in" best friend. I've never been best at nurturing female relationships. So having a built-in bestie makes it even harder for me to put forth the effort to connect. I have many good friends but I don't talk on the phone with anyone nor do I go out shopping or to lunch with the girls often (every really).

11. Do you still live in the same town where you grew up?
Nope. That ship sailed at 18 years of age when I took the first opportunity to move back to Toronto. I always think I can live a small town, small city life but I really can't. I can do it for a little bit until the novelty wears off but I need concrete under my feet and skyscrapers above my head to feel comfortable in my own skin.

Knowing Me, Knowing You - Sep '11

1. What's on your bedside table?Lamp. Kleenex. Couple books I'm never going to read.

2. What is your favourite kind of cookie?Hendricken chocolate chip cookies. My best friend growing up's mom always made the BEST chocolate chip cookies. She says it is just the package they follow but I think they must put an extra ingredient of perfection in there.

3. How long does it take you to get ready?
Depends. We talking Day One: Shampoo AND condition day or Day Two: Spray bottle of Infusium and mousse day or Day Three: Just conditioner day?

4. What would you like to be doing right now?
Attempting to procreate.
Oh, who am I kidding? I just want the part after that, where you fall into a deep, restful sleep.

5. Is your kitchen sink empty?Ummm, yes and no. One side is full. The other is not. Clean dishes from dishwasher need to be put away. Watcha doing tonight?

Now, please head on over to the Fairy Blogmother from whence all "Knowing Me, Knowing You" posts cometh from.

Knowing Me, Knowing You - Aug '11

knowing me, knowing you - august 2011

Time once again for that monthly interview project, Knowing Me, Knowing You created by my dear friend, Fairy Blogmother. And yes, I know it is September. It's been that kind of a month.

1. Are you going to BlogHer?Nope. I thought it would have been fun a few years ago when I was more into blogging and BlogHer was held in Chicago. But I didn't find out about it until too late. Now I don't have the time or inclination.

2. Do your kids share a bedroom? Did you share a bedroom? No and Yes but yes and no.
Our kids have their own bedrooms but prefer to sleep together. They get in trouble for talking past bedtime. They each have double/full-sized beds so sometimes they sleep in Motor Mouth's room and other times in Mini Me's room. Usually, they sleep on their own unless we have house guests or laundry piled up in Mini Me's room...
I shared a bedroom with my sister for a few years but then my dad built her a bedroom in the basement. It was a good thing. We are very different when it comes to our level of cleanliness and very different people to say the least.

3. Have you bought anything using a group buy website like groupon, wagjag or the like?I have, quite a bit too. Groupon used to be better than it is now, I think. We have used Craigslist a fair bit as well.

4. Are you watching Big Brother?Nope. I watched the first season, enjoyed it and never watched another season.

5. Do you have any tattoos?Yes. Three. Lower back, foot, wrist. I have another foot so I may get another. But I'm not sure. I think I may be tattooed out of places on my body. I will NOT get a tattoo on my arms, shoulder, chest or back.
Okay, so head over to the Fairy Blogmother to see her answers and to play along.

knowing me, knowing you - july 2011

It's time once again for that monthly interview project that the Fairy Blogmother originated.

2. What's your guilty pleasure?
Pedicures and um...waxing...

3. Are you on Pinterest? No. And I have no pinterest in finding out what that is.

4. Popsicle or an ice cream cone?Ice cream. We used to have a popsicle store down the street. The kids loved going there in the summer. Sadly, it is a casualty of the recession.

5. Are your toes painted?Yes. Always. Black polish. I love the massage chair at my nail salon.

Now, head on over to visit The Fairy Blogmother!

Knowing Me Knowing You - May '11

knowing me, knowing you - may 2011

Okay so it's time once again for that monthly interview project... knowing me, knowing you, created by my friend over at "The Fairy Blogmother."

1. What was your wedding song?
We eloped so there was no music until J dubbed it in afterwards for the video.
When I walked down the aisle he played "Ava Maria" because that's my middle name.
And then he dubbed in "For The First Time" by Kenny Loggins. It is about 2 people that knew each other as friends and then fell in love and so it's like the first time they are seeing each other or something like that.

2. If you could guest star on any TV show which one would you pick?
Law and Order: SVU. I'd play some crazy person. Oh wait, that wouldn't be acting.

3. What is your favorite children's book?I loved Cinderella when I was a kid. Now, I love reading "Alice the Fairy" to my kids. I put on this crazy voice and it is something to behold.

4. Did you watch the Royal Wedding?
I watched Charles and Diana's royal wedding. Does that count?

5. What is your favorite thing to have off the barbecue?
Pineapple. Fresh pineapple that has been grilled is the stuff orgasms are made of.

Okay, so head over to Fairy Blogmother and see what she posted. I would link there but my linky thingy is not working and I need to take my contacts out and go to bed.

Knowing Me Knowing You - April '11

knowing me, knowing you - april 2011

Time once again for that monthly interview project created by my dear friend, The Fairy Blogmother.

1. Do you text?Yes. I finally have unlimited texting and well, wow! Now I'm like a school girl texting her BFF.

2. What's your favorite kind of cheese?Pepper Jack. Wait - no, feta. But I do love a good cheddar... I love cheese but I don't eat it often and don't do the rich cheeses as my stomach and cheese have a love-hate relationship. Mostly hate.

3. Got big plans for the weekend?
We do actually. Privacy laws require me to keep our plans confidential.

4. How do you keep track of your families activities and obligations? We have Mobile Me accounts with Mac that enable us to share calendars. We have it color coded for J's work, my work, kids' school, family activities, etc. We can access and update on our iPhones and laptops. It's pretty sweet.

5. Who's the last person you talked to on the phone?J. Always J. I don't talk on the phone much. Like, almost never. Facebook is my chosen method of communication. I just can't stand sitting on the phone talking. I think it gets you into trouble. I think you say too much and are more likely to fill in the gaps with other people's business.
Also, I talk a LOT at work and I talk a LOT to my kids (okay, that is more yelling but still). J and I are best friends. We talk a LOT to each other. There really isn't much more left for anyone else after that.
Head on over to The Fairy Blogmother to see what she has to say.

Knowing Me, Knowing You - Mar '11

Time again for the monthly question series, Knowing Me, Knowing You, originated by The Fairy Blogmother. Enjoy and play along on the Blogmother's site.

1. Do you consider yourself a foodie?Nope. I don't know much about food. J is a foodie. He can taste a food and tell you what the ingredients are (spices and all). I can't eat white sauces or cheese. No food worth their weight can possibly shy away from these prime ingredients.

2. Are you a spender or a saver?Both.

3. What was the last movie you saw?I Am Four. Loved it!!!!!!!! J and I finally went on a date for the first time in months and months. It was nice to do dinner and a movie with my husband.

4. What is the closest book to you?My iPhone is closest to me so my current iPhone books are:

- Audiobooks: The Secret Garden
- Audible: Inbound Marketing

Across from me, the physical book on top of the nearest bookcase is:
- Tribes by Seth Godin

5. Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?Yes! Widney is an Irish name. The children wear green. I found a green sweater to wear. We have a new tradition of going to the Greening of the River on the Chicago River. And of course, we have Shamrock shakes! I do have a box of St. Patty's Day decorations I put around the house. I also try to make the kids green shamrock pancakes on March 17.

Knowing Me, Knowing You - Feb '11

Time once again for everyone's favourite monthly interview project.. Knowing Me, Knowing You, originated and hosted by the incredible Fairy Blogmother.

1. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
After my shower in the morning my personality gets perky. However, I can get a LOT done from 8 pm to 1 am at the office, alone.

2. What is favorite show of all time - you've seen all the episodes, you've watched it over and over and quote from it all the time?
I don't watch anything over and over. I tend to quote Oprah or her guests.
That said, L.A.Law. I would not schedule anything or talk on the phone during L.A.Law. I love Jimmy Smits. Love him. Would have his babies. Or just practice. A LOT.
And Criminal Minds. And Star Trek Next Generation. And Six Feet Under. And Nip/Tuck.

3. Who would you invite to a celebrity dinner party?
Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Barack Obama, and Seth Godin.
And no, I would not invite Jimmy Smits, Lenny Kravitz, Jeff Goldblum, or George W. Bush to dinner because I want to have each of them for dessert, one yummy morsel at a time.

4. Would you rather have breakfast out or dinner out?
Dinner. I don't care for breakfast out - never enough salt and pepper, too much butter. Besides, I'm the kinda girl that would rather spend money on dinner than for brunch. I can justify spending money on a good steak but not eggs and pancakes.

5. Packers or Steelers?
After the Packers beat the Bears, I lost all interest in football until next year. It was almost 2 weeks before I found out who won. And even now, I'm not really sure .

Now, head on over to The Fairy Blogmother to play along.

Knowing Me, Knowing You - Jan '11

knowing me, knowing you - january 2011

This is the monthly questionnaire hosted by The Fairy Blogmother.

1. Okay so you have $5 million to spend in five days and you can't spend it on yourself or your family. What do you spend it on?
That is easy. I would give $1 million to Motor Mouth's school, $1 million to our former adoption agency, $100K to the church J just stopped working for, $100K to a new church in our neighborhood, split another $50K between a about 5 organizations I have either volunteered for or been involved with in the past. The remaining $2.5 million would be used to start a non-profit agency that helps women facing crisis pregnancies.

2. What's your favorite type of food?
Trinidadian food is a mix of Spanish, Asian, South Asian. So, by picking Trinidadian food, I get a mix!

3. What is the best concert you've ever attended?
Trans Siberian Orchestra. Hands down. Beats anything and everything ever.

4. What sports do you like?
Basketball. Volleyball. Tennis. Running. Curling. I've done them all except for curling.

5. Who is your favorite cartoon character of all time?
Mickey Mouse. I love him.

Knowing Me, Knowing You - Dec '10

The Fairy Blogmother is home to Knowing Me, Knowing You but she has been extremely busy this month. More busy than you and I. See, she has a job (other than being wife and mom) and there was all the usual Christmas stuff but on top of that, she kicked her Old Village Bakery gig up a notch. The Blogmother was swamped with baking and decorating orders! So she didn't have time to do Knowing Me, Knowing You this month. And it's almost a whole new year! I copied most of her questions from last year. They were good. Enoy!

1. Are you a fruit cake fan?
Nooooo. I hate it. Not sure who invented it but it's just wrong. Torture.

2. What is your favorite at Christmas meal?
This year, we purchased a Honey Baked Ham. J made asparagus, rosemary roasted potatoes, fresh rolls, and a pineapple thing with cranberry thing on top. It was all so yummy! New tradition!

3. How is your tree decorated? A theme? Does it have a more eclectic slant?
Our loft was redecorated and is now Mid-Century/Modern. J felt the tree should follow suit. He went old school with light bulbs, over 100 antique ornaments from a dead woman whose family sold them all, those lights that have water in them and bubble up, and even tinsel!!!
Every year, we buy the kids an ornament. The tree has all of their personal ornaments and a few from their trees as we did not put up trees in each of their rooms this year. (Too much work!)

4. What's youir favorite Christmas movie?
I honestly don't like watching Christmas movies. But I'll say Polar Express. I do enjoy going to the movie theatre with my siblings, which became a tradition for a few years when we were all single.

5. New jammies on Christmas Eve?
It would not be Christmas without new PJs.

Knowing Me Knowing You - Nov '10

knowing me, knowing you - november 2010

Time once again for my favorite monthly interview project hosted by The Fairy Blogmother. I hope you'll play along.

1) Last month we were asked if we had started our Christmas shopping yet, this month, what's on your Christmas wish list?
I don't have a Christmas wish list. As a grown up, I buy what I need all year long. That's the benefit of being a grown up. Instant gratification.

2) Do you have a hand held video game in your house?
Would that be a Wii? The kids play it and watch movies on it. I am so lost on that thing, it's not even funny. I played it with them the first couple of weeks and now they say I slow them down so they won't let me play with them.

3) Are you going to participate in the 25 Days of Christmas Challenge?
It sounds like more work than I am up for. I might do a few things here and there. We are all excited about Moo Moo the Christmas Cow returning. There was a Moo Moo siting this week. Seems that naughty cow may be in town already!

4) What is your favorite kind of cookie?
The chocolate chip cookies my friend, Lori's family makes. Lori says the directions are right on the bag but they must do something a little different 'cause that just says 'home' to me. I do like white chocolate macadamia nut cookies if Lori's cookies aren't around.

5) Coffee or tea?
Tea. My latest love is hot Green Tea Ginger Twist Tea from Argo Tea. It's like a surprise and burst of excitement with a hint of splendor in every sip. Excuse me. I gotta go to Argo Tea.

Knowing Me Knowing You - October 2010

Here is my favorite interview project once again...

1. Started your Christmas shopping yet?
No. But I ordered this thing for my J that I'm pretty excited about! Can hardly wait for it to arrive!! I hope he likes it. I should wait until Christmas to give it to him but I can't. Maybe that is why I don't buy Christmas gifts so early. I want to give them to the recipient sooner!!

2. Fall is here, what's your favourite cold weather comfort food?
Chili. Ron's Chili but I'm not aware of a Ron's Chili outside of Oklahoma.

3. Are you watching any new shows?
Yes. TMZ.

4. Have you read Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet?
I just finished my first novel all year. Don't push it.

5. Is the top of your desk cluttered or clear?
Our home is a staging area right now until we get some custom furniture in and paint a few walls, and get rid of other furniture. So, yes, cluttered.

Now, head on over to The Fairy Blogmother to play along.

Knowing Me Knowing You - September

My good friend, The Fairy Blogmother, has been busy and sick this month so I think she forgot to do   her monthly question and answer series. I went over to a few places on the net and grabbed these random questions. It's almost the end of September so I HAVE to get these posted.

Have you ever thought about converting your religion?
Nope. None of the others make sense to me. I like some things in other religions but I'm not 'religious' so I don't do a lot of rituals. I live life and have relationship with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Who do you most look like in your family?
I don't look like anyone. There are 4 of us and we look nothing alike. Different body shapes, face shapes, hair, eye, skin color. Different eyes, nose, cheeks, hands, feet. Nothing alike. We could all be adopted.

Have your parents ever smoked pot?
What?? No. Really, no. Haha. The thought of it makes me laugh hysterically.

Want someone back in your life?
Nope. My life is pretty great right now. I rather like it this way.

What do you order at the bar?
If I'm sitting AT the bar, I ask the bartender to make me something of their choosing. It usually works out to be amazing!!

Ever licked someone’s cheek?
I lick my kids' cheeks. Usually it is after I have pinned them down and been wrestling for awhile. I learned this move from my brother who has 5 children.

If you could go back in time, how far back would you go?
I would go back to the last time I was supposed to go shopping with my grandparents. I changed my mind at the last minute before getting out of the car. I wish I had those hours back to spend with them. My grandfather passed away quickly a few months later. He was my favorite person in the world.

Knowing You, Knowing Me - August '10

Knowing Me, Knowing You is a monthly ritual created by The Fairy Blogmother. I look forward to reading her questions and answers each month. Which is why I am thrilled she finally had time this month to post!

1. What is your favorite kind of pie?
Mypie!! That's the nickname The Fairly Blogmother uses for her adorable little girl.

But if you meant food....I like light pies, like the one I make with whipped cream and pudding and fruit. I know it sounds peasant of me, but I don't like heavy pies. I love light desserts - you know, the kind that make you feel like you really aren't eating yourself to death.

2. What kind of wedding did you have?
Small. Short. Effective. The minister, his wife, the photographer, videographer, our 2 witnesses and us. Less than 7 minutes long, including the bonus footage. It did the job and I wouldn't change a thing.

3. Ever been to a 3D movie?
Many times. I hate them. My kids hate them too. I wear glasses so unless I think to put my contacts in, the experience is aggravating.

4. What is the worst movie ever made?
I don't know. There are a lot of really bad movies out there like 'Bill & Ted's Big Adventure' and lame movies like that.

5. Are you all set for back to school?
Mini Me started last week. Motor Mouth starts in 2 days. All the clothes are ready and hanging in the closet. Backpack is waiting at the door. Motor Mouth attends a private school so all the school supplies are included. ALL. I don't even have to buy a box of Kleenex.

Now, head on over to The Fairy Blogmother to play along!

Knowing Me, Knowing You - July '10

It is time once again for monthly interview project created by The Fairy Blogmother.

1. Do you like to garage sale?
No if you mean do I like to go to garage sales. In theory I would love to garage sale. It's big in Tulsa almost year round. But I am always disappointed in the junk people have for sale.

YES if you mean do I like to hold garage sales. I am often complimented on how nice my sale items are. J helps and we 'style' our sales. Like the time we were selling a bed and a comforter set, we brought the bed out, set it up with the comforter set. SOLD in 15 minutes. We also had a baking rack that matched our kitchen table and chairs, plus napkins, place mats, centerpiece. We set it all up together. Everything sold within 20 minutes (except the kitchen table & chairs which was just there to draw the crowd in).

2. What do or would you garage sale for?
Tea pots. I collect tea pots. I look for Longaberger baskets that people don't realize are a collector's items and have selling for dirt cheap.

3. Cloth or paper napkins?
In Tulsa we were more formal and did cloth. In Chicago, I just don't have the time to be washing and folding napkins. Plus, where would I put it all??

4. Ever re-gift?
I've joked about it and talked about to the point people think I have. But to be honest, I can't think of anything I've ever actually re-gifted. I have definitely re-gift bagged.

5. Are you watching Big Brother or Last Comic Standing?
No. I only ever watched the first season of Big Brother.
Nope. Never seen Last Comic Standing.

If you want to play on your blog, be sure to head on over to The Fairy Blogmother to give her some Linky love.

Knowing Me, Knowing You - June '10

Time once again for the monthly interview project, knowing me, knowing you. Please play along on your own blog and go to The Fairy Blogmother to let her know you played.

1. Do you often have out of town guests?
Since moving to Chicago 2-3x/mth in the summer and 1x/month in winter. We enjoy entertaining and spending time with our friends but we've created boundaries as it can get really expensive for us to be running around town going to all the museums with out-of-towners twice/month ($2-300 in parking, museum entry, dinners, etc. EACH time.)

2. What kind of an overnight guest set up do you have?
Guests sleep in MotorMouth's bedroom on a full-sized bed with a skyline view of downtown Chicago - the Sears Tower is about 2 miles away. We let them use the kids' bathroom. When I have my act together and remember, I prepare a guest basket with toiletries, mints, chocolates, bottle water, etc. for them. If there are a lot of them, they might also have Mini Me's bedroom (she has a full-sized bed too).

3. Cupcake or cake?
Cupcakes are cute, don't get me wrong, but I really prefer a piece of cake.

4. Iced tea or lemonade?
Lemonade. Pink. Yellow. White. Strawberry. Lemonade.

5. When you get into bed for the night do you go right to sleep or do you read, internet or watch TV before lights out?
I used to lay in bed awake for up to 60-90 minutes but now I'm so tired I am asleep within 5-10 minutes of my head hitting that pillow.
