As part of You Asked. I'm Answering, the response to this question was just a bit too long for the previous blog entry. And, I think it deserves it's own...
Tell us your love story!
In 1995, J and I met through his Aunt K and Uncle K. We became best friends the night we met and were inseparable from then on. We were told by all those around us (including strangers) that we were such good friends, we should get married. But neither of us saw the other in a physical/sexual way. We thought that if we married, it would end the friendship (we were right). J was was my little brother, and I was his older sister. Besides, I have a teddy bear older than him.
In 1996, I moved back to Canada. We kinda kept in touch, but the relationship was more with his mom, DonnaMomma. DonnaMomma invited me to spend Thanksgiving with their family in 1998. At the end of a full week of being together 24/7, we realized there was more than friendship there. We couldn't agree on where to live, so we didn't talk for 5 months.
DonnaMomma invited me to her daughter's high school graduation in May 1999. Instead of waiting until the end of our week together, I wanted to know the status of our 'friendship' that first night. Were we going to be 'friends friends', or 'kissing friends'? J said "Kissing friends." and I said, "Well, alright then."
At the end of the week, one of his dad's pilots flew J home to Missouri. In the back of the plane, we talked about our ideal weddings. I thought the "relationship" was over and the next time we saw each other, it would be at each other's weddings to other people. When we landed back in Tulsa, his dad asked if I was going to be his daughter-in-law. When I told him 'no', he said, "Well, if you can't be my daughter-in-law, you'll just have to be my daughter."
The next day, J called and talked to his dad for forever!! FINALLY, I got to talk to him.It went down like this:
J said, "I'm moving back to Tulsa at the end of the month."
"Wow! That's great!" I said.
"I'll be working for my father." he said.
"Really? Wow?" I said.
"And I told my dad we love each other and want to get married." Jason said.
"What? You did? Oh my God." I said.
"Well, I have to go do this graduation. I'll call you tomorrow."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, was my marriage proposal and how we went from being best friends to being engaged in one phone call.
If you want to know how we ended up eloping,
